2016 Crosstrek Advice

Some interesting lingo like "murdered out".
I like the blacking approach but I wouldn't go as far as you suggest.
And I would add some dark emerald green touches.
But that means I'm buying instead of leasing.
And I have to deal with finding a good private sale rather than trade in.
But it's very cool so I think I have to do it : )
The one thing is when you make it look badass, and it drives like a regular car,
it's kind of out of sync.

It won't drive like a regular in the winter tho. Don't know what you had before, but going from a FWD to AWD is a whole other feeling! BTW don't go the Black and Monster green theme. Because that will seriously look like a 16 year old just finished watching his first Ken Block video...

I have a 2009 Impreza hatchback AWD so I know what they're about.
Let's be honest, I like the look, the AWD, it holds value pretty well, but the drive is nothing to write home about : )
But there aren't many choices for cross between a SUV and car that drives like a car, with solid AWD, with holding value, with good looks, in this price range - so I'm happy with it and I just wanted more clearance with the winters, roads, etc.
So the Crosstrek is the way to go and I will be loving it.
If you want similar but better power/handling than you're getting into the luxury stuff like Audi, BMW, etc.
So I accept where my budget is and where my priorities are.
And not to worry, I'm not talking neon green : ) I'm talking small amounts of dark emerald green to complement the black (murdered out) look.
And no I don't want an off-road mod - it's very cool but it's not practical for me.

For people wanting to dress up their car but choose to go with lease,
or want to sell it privately looking like the factory original,
can we make a list of cool changes/accessories that are not permanent,
that can be switched back to factory in the shop before returning
or selling privately?

The best thing to do is to simply purchase replacement or additional parts which can give you the theme or murdered out look. then you can easily revert back to stock, and potentially sell off the parts you've purchased. this means avoiding paint jobs and etc... or for instance, if you swap in an aftermarket exhaust. simply keep the stock parts, and you can revert if necessary, resell, whatever makes most sense. you frequently see "back to stock" for sale threads on the forums. you often don't make your money back, but it does help fund the next project.

When it comes to cool changes, do internet research, get out to local car shows and see what others have done, see what you like and don't like, and get inspired. just remember its your car and your doing this for you. dont get bothered by what others think.

Nice car. I like the black look but not into the other one with the batman paint job.

So my buddy is planting doubts in my brain.
Conversation was about Crosstrek vs Outback.
He was basically saying that:

both are similar as far as performance/handling
both are similar in price (the $2,000 diff is not an issue for me)
both have a similar look
But the Outback has a more solid, smooth ride due to the weight and longer wheelbase.
And both the 2.5i and 3.6R offer more power, towing and performance than the Crosstrek's 148 hp @ 6,200RPM.
So why not go with the Outback.

Can someone please clarify in layman's terms the difference between the these 3 options?
If I'm not concerned with towing, how do they translate as far as performance on the road and in winter conditions?
And would you agree the Outback has a more solid, smooth drive feel?

There's many guys with Outback here... they will tell you.

I don't (or didn't) have Outback so I can't really add details.
