2016 Crosstrek Advice
Hi, (sorry my written French is not very good)
I have never made any real aftermarket mods on a car before.
I'm not looking for an expensive race car : )
I was just hoping to have a little more power, better handling, extra suspension, better turning radius,
and smoother ride - is this possible?
And if yes, would $5,000 be anywhere close to make it happen?
Also, what happens with the warranty and maintenance if I make changes to the factory setup?
Finally, what Subaru dealer or shop is a reliable place to get a quote for work like this?
Thanks

Re: 2016 Crosstrek Advice
Do you plan to buy a 2016 crosstrek and add some little extra to it ? and you said 5000$ of goodies ? adding and/or modifying a vehicule with guarantee left... you're playing with fire, my opinion .. there's couple of Subaru shop that you may contact, if you want to have informations about that, better to tell in which area you look for !
good luck !

Something closer to NDG would be good.
Also can I make some of the changes I mention, and would $5000 be enough?
Thanks

Re: 2016 Crosstrek Advice
Get a Forester XT then.
250 hp instead of 148.
It's a bit more expensive but you'll be able to get more of a rebate and your 5000$ worth of upgrades will be on your monthly term and under warranty.

Re: 2016 Crosstrek Advice
You guys are very helpful!
A little more info - I have had an Impreza hatchback since 2009 (not turbo)
I felt that it had too low clearance and not enough handling/pickup to justify
a sporty hatchback model.
So the idea now is to go higher clearance and also try to improve the drive.
The Forester XT and XV Crosstrek share same base but I like the smaller sportier design of the Crosstrek more.
Can I get the Crosstrek with turbo upgrade?
Or can I get WRX with mod clearance/suspension to match Crosstrek?
Also it would be in cash for car and any upgrade/mods.
What would be closest/best place to NDG?
And please ignore my "smoother ride" criteria : )
Thanks again.

Re: 2016 Crosstrek Advice
Well I don't know which exact clearance you had in mind (summer and/or winter) but the new WRX has a very high clearance for my taste (based on the wheel gap). Of course, if you're aiming more at a "truck" sized clearance the WRX is still a Sedan...
Maybe a little bit more detail on why you are looking for clearance would help. Examples:
1. Back problem, can't bend too much to enter car
2. Need to jump that concrete parking block every morning
3. Feel more comfortable at "truck-height"
4. Esthetics
As far as performance goes, the rule of thumb with Subaru's is that you don't try to boost a normal aspirated car. Tough it's feasible to a certain degree, the few that tried it can confirm it's a money pit and surely $5k would get you far. So basically if you want power, buy a Turbo model or a H6.
The Crosstrek does not come with a Turbo option, the only "additional" power you can get is out of it is with the Hybrid model but let's not kid ourselves, we're only talking about 13hp marketing-horsepower more.. So bascially you get the Hybrid more for your conscience than anything else..
All that being said, if you want clearance AND power, you either need to go for a bigger vehicule such as the Forester or Outback.. Or you can always look at the WRX with a lift-kit:

The clearance issue for me is with the bad roads, the sidewalks, the buildup of ice/snow banks etc, and weekend back roads in the eastern townships (not off-roading just country back roads)
I found my Impreza hatchback would bottom out, the lower body got scratched up and torn off, some underbelly damage, and avoiding parking where there was build up of ice/snow.
I wish the Crosstrek had factory turbo option, but I might have to lean towards the Forester XT.
I dont like the shape/size as much, but I can tweak it a bit with $3-5k.
What is a good place near me to do aftermarket work?
Thanks

Re: 2016 Crosstrek Advice
Not sure if you are aware of Lachute Perfomance, they are about to open up a new program, called LP Adventure, where they use the Forester as their first Base where they'll be putting out mods for better ground clearance. Seeing as you will be driving the Eastern Townships on the week-end, you are probably going to your chalet, so will be bringing in lots of stuff. Have a look at what they offer, it might make you a believer. haha! I know at first I didn't like the look of the forester, but they are offering something that is making me switch sides.

I think I would be more interested if they did a Crosstrek package.
I'm starting to think that turbo is going to be overkill for my needs.
And I just can't get into the Forester look.

Plus, if you want more power, you'll have to go with the XT, wich has a nicer front end IMHO.

I think they should have offered a more powerful Crosstrek option for 2016. (not even turbo kit just more power than the 2016 factory)kamuro a écrit :Plus, if you want more power, you'll have to go with the XT, wich has a nicer front end IMHO.
