MattRamana Lagemann
Ramana's first encounter with rallying was at the age of eight, watching the ESPN show "Secrets of Speed," which featured classic Audi racing and rallying footage; he has been in awe with the sport ever since. The 1999 Maine Forest ProRally was Ramana's first event, driving a 1985 Volkswagen Golf. He drove the VW for two rallies, before moving up to an Open class Mitsubishi Galant in 2000. Teething problems with the Galant yielded relatively unimpressive results, (3 Mechanical DNFs in 5 events) despite many top-five stage times.
For 2001, Ramana was partnered by 2000 Gp. N co-driver champion Russ Hughes in a Gp. N Subaru Impreza WRX, run by the Vermont SportsCar team. Missing the first round in Michigan and retiring from the second round in Tennessee due to a small mechanical fault, the team was off to a slow start. Ramana and Russ quickly picked up the pace in the following six rounds, however, amassing several impressive results including 2 Gp. N wins and a 3rd overall at the Wild West Pro Rally.
For 2002, Ramana has signed with Subaru of America and Prodrive to drive for the Subaru Rally Team USA. This makes him the youngest driver on a factory backed team, and the youngest driver seriously contesting the U.S. Championship. This is an incredible opportunity for Ramana, and he plans to make the most of the experience, hopefully leading to a drive on the World Championship.
