There is a dealer installed short shift kit that I was thinking of upgrading to and I was wondering what you guys thought of it. Is it worth it?, how good is it?. What are your thoughts.
I installed a 2 way adjustable short T shifter from Cobb. With duty, mail etc... it costs as much as the Subaru one.
Now, they say the Subaru one shorten the throw by about 15%. Thats not much but still is about the same as I got wiht the Cobb. To get shorter with the Cobb, I would have to cut/modify some part at the base of the shifter. I'm talking about a car's part.

My advice: Get the Sub ST wich comes fully guaranteed job and part. If you want a shorter throw, avoid Cobb. Kartboy might be a good choice?

(Please allow me to insist: Put the mud flaps before you get the car out of the show room.)
thanks allot! ill take your advice and get it done by the dealer.

As far as the mud flaps.....I'm going to have to wait and see. :?

I`m now looking into buying a steering rack, coilovers and sways to help with the oversteer/body roll on the 08-09 models. Any and all advice would be nice.

This subject has been discussed before on this forum. Do some research about it. I believe Kolia brought some interesting info about this.

What oversteer ? And what's wrong with body roll ?

I'd leave the car alone for the first few weeks at least. If only to go throught the break-in period.

Did you get to drive the STi ? I'm surprized you feel the need for a shorter throw.

Maybe you tried a WRX and they sell it to you as a STI?!?! :D those problems comes with the WRX, not the STI.

What over-steer...umm the one every reviewer seems to be talking about.
Body roll...While test driving the car the salesman let me kick it a bit. While turning onto the 15 from Cure-Labelle I gave the car a little gas on the ramp. I felt that the car leans towards the outside of the curve a little to much for my licking, so Id like to correct that. Id also like to lower the car a bit at the same time.

As for the short shifter. Yup I deff want to change that. I passed by the dealer AGAIN today and the feel of the shifter is just to rubbery. If the new short shifter takes just that away, it will be worth the money for me. Even if it doesn't make a big diff in the throw distance.

Thanks for the advice.

I know its not the same thing, but I def enjoy my short shift kit on my 5speed tranny! At first I found not "aggressive" enough like the feeling I had with my TWM shortshifter, but after all I enjoy I pretty much. Worth the price! You wont regret it !!

As a former owner of a '08 STi, I found it very much understeering. Untill the DCCD kicked in and tryed to balance things out.

As for body roll, it's "normal" on a Subaru to have a long suspension travel. Don't expect too much.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOPPPPSSSS DID I SAY OVER-STEER???? I ment to say under-steer!! LMAO!! I don't know how that went un-noticed by me till now!

what do you mean until . The DCCD would kick in late? I don't get what your trying to say. When the DCCD would finally kick in, would everything be ok?

As for the body roll. Normal or not, I don't like it. I'm going to try and correct it.

Here's a little update.
I decided to mod my car and cancel the extended warranty I purchased on it.

Spoke with Pilman from Lachute Performance(VERY PLEASED WITH THEM SO FAR!) they are the one's that are going to be modding my new beast.

Here is a list of things that they will be doing to it.

Complete exhaust system.
Headers + Up pipe.
Ecutek programming.

I'm also thinking of possibly upgrading the front and rear swaybar, strut braces as well as swaybar links and springs

Hello everyone! Ill be getting my car sooner than expected! WOOOHOOO!!! 16 or 17th of the month. NEXT WEEK! I am more pumped about this car than any other car I have ever purchased! One reason being I know I'm going to be modding the S**** out of it and two, I'm going to TRY and get this car on the track as much as possible!

I just got a PM from Pilman(lachute performance) with a price quote of the mods I will be installing right away. Next week, IF possible with them.

- Front and Rear endlinks
- Performance springs
- Cusco Front and Rear Strut braces
- Whiteline Impreza Rear Camber Correction Bushings
- pitch mount adjustable
- Cusco front H brace
- Heat shield
- Red Hella Supertones
- v limited front lip

Here is a list of dealer installed upgrades I purchased.

- Short throw shifter kit
- 3M Clear Bra Paint Protection
- SubWoofer Amplifier

Nice shopping list you've got there! Not too sure about the side windows deflector though...

Also, I wouldn't tune the car after only 2k. If I were you, I would change the oil at 2k, another time at 5-6k. Enjoy the ride as is for another 1-2k and then tune it! That way, you would remove all the crap in the oil, make sure none of this crap gets in the engine and that the break in is done properly.

Read up about all those wrx265 engines that blew up before 6000k.

Better be safe then sorry
